EXtra Years of Zest In March, John Lile treated us to a melodious journey through England and Ireland on his ‘organ tour’ and to wonderful experiences enjoyed in Paris’ Latin Quarter. Having the DVD player makes it so much easier than passing around pictures, doesn’t it? Afterwards we dined on the BEST Cajun cooking west of New Orleans thanks to Josephine Davis! Those of us that stayed for the lunch enjoyed an awesome table of red beans and rice, baked chicken, green salad, potato salad, crab and shrimp cornmeal dressing and bread pudding. Laissez le bonne temps roulette! Thank you John and Josephine for sharing your talents with us. March also found a small group of us traveling to the Witte Museum for the ‘Our Body’ exhibit. Joan Williams, having seen a similar exhibit elsewhere told us that we wouldn’t be disappointed – and we weren’t! When you see the human body exposed (for lack of a better descriptor) it’s like taking a tiny peak into God’s mind. For only the most brilliant, loving and creative mind could have devised something so intricate and, well, just truly amazing. The painted churches of Schulenburg are expecting us on April 2nd. There is a sign-up sheet on our bulletin board. I will coordinate our departure time with you once I have a final attendance count. Later in April we will venture back to the scene of the crime, or rather, Friedrich Park. (That’s kind of an inside joke for those that braved the cold and crime last time). Peggy Spring, Friedrich’s Master Naturalist, will talk about "The Secret Life of Trees." She'll talk about ways water moves around in trees, how tree roots 'communicate' with fungi and what they have to say to each other and of course, that engaging topic of reproduction. We’ll spend part of the time in the classroom and part on the trails. Afterwards we’ll head west a tiny bit further and dine at the Scenic Loop Café. If you’re not much into trailblazing but want to sit in on the classroom part and the lunch part we’ll be happy for your company. Look for a sign-up sheet on our bulletin board. Time permitting, we will stop at Saint Elizabeth Anne Seaton Catholic Church to see their new stations of the Cross Statues. To be completely honest, I’m open for suggestions for the month of May. It’s been mentioned that we have another game day and order lunch in, I’ve also heard from someone interested in going to The Shops of La Cantera (right Katheryn?). I’ll be putting something together in the next several weeks so weigh in now to get your idea on our calendar. Kelley Kelch OHPC Adult Ministry Coordinator |
